Mounjaro Coupon Update

Please read the entirety of this page as it contains information regarding specific steps you need to take depending on how the situation applies to you.

It has been brought to our attention that the original version of the Mounjaro Savings coupon ($25/mo) is no longer active as of July 1st.  We anticipated this potentially happening and have prepared a transition plan for the patients who have been affected by this change.

As many of you know, Mounjaro is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, therefore running the medication through insurance will only be applicable to patients with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes supported by documented lab results. Patients who downloaded a coupon from June 2022 through November 2022 were able to bypass their insurance and receive Mounjaro under the savings coupon.  Downloading a new coupon today will not change this process.  The coupons are only applicable to patients with diabetes.

What You Need to Know

If you are a patient who has been receiving Mounjaro under the coupon program, we will not be able to continue that option moving forward.  If your pharmacy tells you that your prescription is pending doctor authorization, this indicates that that pharmacy is attempting to run the medication through your insurance.  We are not able to submit an authorization request for the medication coverage unless you are type 2 diabetic.  We ask that you do not request us “try” as the Prior Authorization process requires a significant amount of documentation and administrative effort.  We will not submit prior authorizations for Mounjaro on patients who do not have a diabetic diagnosis and supporting labs on file.

Options available:

1. We can transition you to Wegovy (semaglutide) if your insurance has weight loss coverage.  This process almost always requires a Prior Authorization and fee of $35.  We cannot guarantee your insurance will approve the authorization and the fee is not refundable. You can prescreen your insurance here.

2. We can transition you to compounded medications of semaglutide or tirzepatide.  Compounded medications are 100% out of pocket cost and are not run through insurance.  You may be able to use FSA/HSA funds to pay for these medications.  We have Semaglutide and Tirzepatide readily available to purchase from our specialty compounding partner.  The average turnaround time for the medication to be processed and shipped from the pharmacy is 7-10 business days.

We are unable to provide in office injections to “hold patients over” during their transition to a compounded medication.

Transition steps

If you are a patient who has been recently affected by the coupon change and you have already had your recent monthly follow-up appointment, please email rx@atlaspremierhealth.com with your name, date of birth, last appointment date, and the current dose of Mounjaro you are on, and indicate you are no longer able to retrieve your medication due to the coupon change.  We will reach out to discuss alternative options.

If you are a patient who has not had a follow-up appointment within 30 days, we are requiring a follow-up appointment to discuss the transition option with a provider.  If this applies to you, please do not email, or call the office to discuss alternative options.  An appointment is required to further discuss with a provider.

Patients who are on a monthly membership for hormones do not receive weight loss follow-up appointments as part of that membership.  The membership program has always been specific to the hormone therapy.  Weight Loss refills may have been provided at no cost in the past as a courtesy however moving forward you will be required to have a follow-up appointment.
